Beautiful Mistakes

Watercolor on Paper, framed, 11” x 9.5”, 2021

Beautiful Mistakes was created at a time when I felt this awareness that there are multiple versions of myself that felt were in conflict internally via racing thoughts, heightened anxiety and physical pain. This painting was the start of no longer feeling like I have to make myself fit into one neat version of “Lexy.” Letting go of that level of self-repression allowed me to experience a bird’s eye view of myself, as if the many “Lexy’s” were fanned out like in a hand of cards. In this peaceful state, I became able to move freely between the many versions of myself that I have been able to identify. I’ve come to understand this painting as an emotional release based on active mindfulness in order to fully and completely accept oneself.
