Nostalgia
Watercolor on Paper, 12” x 9”, 2020
Nostalgia was created during a renewal of my creative self. The layers of shapes and colors that are stacked from the aqua field up to the warm toned blocks are like the steps I had to climb to reach a deeper understanding of who I truly am. The overlapping dark marks and brighter yellow spots could be interpreted as how my thoughts present themselves in my mind, often flashing too quickly for me to focus. Painted at the end of 2020, Nostalgia is my longing to correct the past- something I learned later isn’t attainable. Yet, the wishful longing for understanding myself does lie in deep rooted emotional and generational inflicted trauma. To me, Nostalgia is not about living in the past, but rather a purposeful examination in order to better oneself in the present.
