Pride Power - The "Loving Kindness" Series

A pure colorist by heart combined with my natural compassion for all people, I became enthralled and caught up in what I now know as the concept of “Rainbow Capitalism” or “Rainbow Washing.” As a heterosexual woman, I questioned had I been part of the LGBTQIA Community, would I already know about this? If I hadn’t become curious about how to represent my interpretation of inspiration from the rainbow of colors and cheer plastered over lawns, businesses, social media outlets, would I blindly celebrate Pride month? Without considering the sustainability and misrepresentation still burdened by most of this community? The sad answer is probably yes. This one painting is but a tiny tribute to those who fight for equality amongst a mighty battle, a shield of color, to warm the months and days when the struggle is hardest.
