Wilder June was created at the cusp of winter turning into spring, in March 2021. Named after my niece, this painting represents the momentous task of motherhood, from prenatal to postnatal. As a multiple Postpartum Depression (PPD) survivor, this painting is thickly covered in paint with many overlapping shapes, lines and forms. Wilder June represents the many phases of PPD battling hormones of loving one’s self and the amazing creations women grow in their womb. Even for those who do not have a child through pregnancy, the overwhelming task of raising a responsible human being is relatable. This painting is one of hope, promise and freedom to be who you want to be.
